The crocodile in Nam Sang Wai, Yuen Long has been on the news for more than a week. Mr. John Lever, the crocodile expert from Australia, left Hong Kong today for private matters and will return on Sunday to continue his hunt of the reptile.
I am not interested in the search, or any action scenes in relation to it. But it seems that the wetland of Nam Sang Wai needs our protection (from pollution) rather than the crocodile.

As a very young Inspector in the RHKP I was posted to the Nam Sang Wai Police post in late 1967 or eary 1968 because it was believed that the communists might attack the Post. It was really Beu Geste; staffed by about 8 RHKP Officers. Spent a week there. Great seafood. I slept in the Sergeant’s quarters. We were not attacked during the time I was there. However, the post had perimiter searchlights etc and we all stayed up for most of each night expecting the worst. I survived.
Merry Christmas.
Thanks for sharing, but why was it believed that the post would be attacked? Is there any significance in the police post at Nam Sang Wai?
For record and easy reference, I post below 2 subsequent e-mails from “e c mackay”:

“Merry Christmas to you.
The time I spent in the Nam Sang Wai Police Post was not too long after the attack on Sha Tau Kok Police Post when several police officers were killed. This took place when HK was going through a very difficult period and was suffering from the after-effects of the Cultural Revolution in China. This was during the time that Red Guards , etc. were trying to assert their authority. I assume that the reason I was sent to Nam Sang Wai was because information must have been received that an attempt could be made to attack the post in order to seize arms. Luckily this did not occur. Hope this information is of some use.”

“Further to my last e-mail. If my memory serves me correctly, the Nam Sang Wai Police Post was built about the time of the Korean War. This was because a lot of contraband was being smuggled into China about this time because there was an embargo on may items being sent to China. The Yuen Long Creek and then Deep Bay was a popular route to get contraband into China hence the reason the post was established in order to curtail smuggling.”
