Comment Spam is the most damaging ememy to blogs. But anti-spamming software / plug-ins can also annoying. I have just started to use Spam Karma (installed by using WordPress Plugins Manager). It is effective against spams, but perhaps too effective. It deleted comments made by real bloggers (in the recent case, Van Koyuki who made a comment about my new theme). I now turned off some options, and hope that Van can make comments here in the future. Otherwise, I may have to fall back to use another plug-in WP-Blacklist (which is available through the said plugin manager).
By the way, Van, if you read this, your blog is blacklisted by a realtime blackist server sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org.

Tackling Comment Spam
I have the same problem as well. I’m using Kitten’s Spaminator but it seems not effective enough while blocking some legit comment. Let’s share our experiences and find the best way. By the way, is WordPress 1.3 alpha stable enough?
I originally used WP-Blacklist and it worked great (at least it never blocked a proper comment) until one nightly build of WP1.3 in October (i think) which prevented me from further updating the blacklist.
WP 1.3 nightly builds are basically stable, with occasional bugs (but you can always restore back to a previous build). What troubles me most is the lack of documentation. The anatomy of “theme” has just been published. And I still do not know how to add a page (perhaps it is my fault — lack of research).
Crap… nothing more I can say…
I have no idea. Just because I typed a spam-proof address!?
I am clueless
I suggest you guy renaming the comments page (wp-comments-post.php …etc), and modify related links.
Those spammer use automatic program which target famous software like WordPress, rename the page would stop them from functioning, it works for me and why dont have a try?
… But I often update wordpress with its nightly builds, it will be quite troublesome to rename the files and make modification every time … anyway, thx for the tip
